Transformation of sun spots This is an animated picture, it takes up almost 0.7 Mb! One can refer it to color illusion with great reserve. The black spot with temperature 5,000 degrees looks black on the background of hotter environment (6,000). And in a steel mill workshop scorching metal having lower temperature shines very brightly. So, everything depends on the surroundings. Now we offer comments of scientists on this picture. We usually see sun spots - magnets of the size of the Earth, as flat formations on the surface of the sun. However, this picture of the sun spot transformations demonstrates how it looks at different heights, and this allows representing it in three dimensions. This order of images of active solar area AR 10675 has been obtained in three specially selected colors, which efficiently single out various layers over the surface of the sun. The first pictures show us the appearance of the suns photosphere surface, covered with granules. A dark nucleus, surrounded by a lighter penumbra, stands out in the center of a big sun spot. The images in the middle of the sequence show the sun in the light, which mainly emanates at the height of several hundreds kilometers over the photosphere. At this height granules, looking like bubbles, which are of the size of a continent, change their appearance, and long stripe appear, which correspond to field lines of magnetostaticfield. The last pictures show the sun at the height of several hundreds kilometers – in the chromosphere. One can easily trace here magnetic field lines from the sun spot to the distant areas. |
