A staircase with a border. At first glance, “an unusual staircase with a border” represents a finished structure. But at a closer glance you will understand that there is serious discrepancy in it. It becomes more evident, if you hide the left or the right two-thirds of the picture. For example, hide the border (parapet) up in the left side, having left the stepped wall down at the right part uncovered. And then do everything vice versa. This simple action will quickly and easily prove the impossibility of existence of such object! Unlike its “sister” – “the Infinite staircase”, - the main quality of which is presence of steps endlessly going up and down, the effect of “Unusual staircase with a border (parapet)” is based on inconsistency between the levels. Steps appear in places, where the figure represents a continuous flatness. This effect could be called “double disproportion”. It seems that it is very easy to climb upstairs at the right side of the figure, and then to walk along the surface to the left, but then you understand that you turned out to be down again! Be careful on your way, otherwise you might “precipitate” or be lost in the spatial stream under the left end of the border (parapet). It might happen just anything in such inter-spatial boundary reality! |
